Meteorology Issues Yellow Code Warning for 12 Provinces

The General Directorate of Meteorology, with its report dated September 17, 2026, issued a yellow code warning for 12 provinces, highlighting the risk of heavy rainfall and storms in inland, western, and northern regions.

According to the weather forecast report dated September 17, 2026, shared by the General Directorate of Meteorology, a cloudy weather pattern is dominating across Turkey. In official meteorological assessments, a yellow code warning has been issued for 12 provinces, with heavy downpours expected in extensive agricultural production basins. Temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal norms in the eastern parts, while remaining around or slightly below seasonal norms in all other regions.

Thunderstorms with heavy downpours are notably expected to intensify locally in the Central Anatolia Region and the inner Aegean basin. While temperatures are around 22°C in Ankara, 20°C in Eskişehir, 26°C in Konya, and 25°C in Nevşehir, the impact of rainfall is expected to increase in western parts. Locally heavy downpours anticipated in Uşak at 20°C, Denizli at 22°C, and across Kütahya and Afyonkarahisar are being closely monitored for their impact on agricultural activities and crops during the harvest period in the region.

Thunderstorms with heavy downpours are projected to spread over a wide area in the Mediterranean belt and the southern Aegean coastal strip. While temperatures around Muğla are measured at approximately 22°C, rainfall is reported to be heavy. In the western parts of Antalya, along with a temperature of 26°C, severe rainfall is expected, while warnings of intermittent showers have been issued for the Lakes Region, Isparta at 20°C, and surrounding areas of Burdur. Rainfall is also being recorded in Adana at 33°C, Hatay at 31°C, and in the western parts of Osmaniye and Kahramanmaraş.

Intermittent and locally severe downpours are forecast along the West, Central, and East Black Sea coastal lines. While temperatures are expected to be 18°C in Bolu, 21°C in Düzce, 20°C in Zonguldak, and 23°C in Sinop, inland areas and Sinop will experience locally heavy rainfall. In Central Anatolia, Samsun at 21°C, Amasya at 25°C, and the Ordu and Çorum line are expected to receive heavy rainfall. In East Anatolia, Rize at 24°C and Trabzon at 22°C remain under the influence of the heavy rainfall weather system.

While clear and partly cloudy skies dominate in the Southeastern Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia regions, wind hazards are prominent in the western parts. According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, strong southerly winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30-50 km per hour in western Eastern Anatolia. While temperatures are 27°C in Erzurum, 26°C in Kars, 32°C in Malatya, and 25°C in Van in the region; Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa reach 35°C, while Gaziantep and Mardin are at 33°C in Southeastern Anatolia.

The issued meteorological warnings point to adverse conditions such as flash floods, inundation, and lightning accompanying heavy downpours. Strong winds during rainfall, transportation disruptions, and the possibility of small-scale hail pose significant risks for producers. The official weather bulletin emphasizes that producers should exercise caution, particularly in open-field harvest activities, fallow lands, and vineyard/garden areas.
