Ministry Continues Quarantine Inspections on Imported Wheat

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has decided to revise the Plant Quarantine Regulation following scientific research on smut disease in cereals.
Smut Disease Inspection in Imports
The General Directorate of Food and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry issued an urgent directive on August 6, 2026, regarding official plant health inspections of wheat imports. The official letter, conveyed to Plant Quarantine Directorates and Exit Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Directorates, reiterated that controls on imported wheat are being meticulously carried out within the framework of Law No. 5996 on Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food and Feed. Ministry officials stated that the existing control, sampling, and analysis processes at border gates will continue exactly as they are, without any disruption, until a new regulation is established.
Amendment to the Plant Quarantine Regulation
A decision has been made to change the legislation in line with the final results of the scientific project titled 'Determination of Smut Disease (Tilletia spp.) Agents and Prevalence in Cereals' conducted by the Ministry. Taking into account the new scientific findings, the administration has initiated a comprehensive revision of the Plant Quarantine Regulation. Until the new regulation comes into effect, current quarantine standards will be applied in full, aiming to protect domestic production against plant health risks.
