Severe Rainfall and Landslide Risk in Eastern Black Sea
· Dünya Gazetesi

The General Directorate of Meteorology issued a strong rainfall warning for the Eastern Black Sea region, predicting up to 100 kilograms of rain per square meter and highlighting the risk of flash floods and landslides.
According to the latest assessments by the General Directorate of Meteorology, cloudy to very cloudy weather conditions will prevail across Turkey. Rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected in many parts of the country, particularly in the Eastern Black Sea region. The precipitation is forecast to be heavy to very heavy, especially from the morning hours, in the vicinity of Trabzon, Rize, and Artvin. Data from the General Directorate of Meteorology indicates that rainfall amounts in these provinces are expected to reach between 51 and 100 kilograms per square meter.
Authorities have issued comprehensive warnings against potential adverse events due to the expected heavy rainfall on the steep slopes of the Eastern Black Sea. Due to the high volume of precipitation, precautions are urged against flash floods, inundation, lightning strikes, and landslides. It was emphasized that strong winds may also be effective during the rainfall, and citizens and producers in the region are advised to act cautiously given the field conditions. Potential floods may pose a risk to areas near stream beds.

Temperatures across the country are expected to remain around seasonal norms. Local showers will occur in Kastamonu and Sinop in the Western Black Sea, in the Taurus Mountains of the Eastern Mediterranean and Hatay coasts, and in northern Eastern Anatolia. Temperatures will reach up to 33 degrees Celsius in Adana, Antalya, Diyarbakır, and Şanlıurfa, and will be around 30 degrees Celsius in İzmir and Muğla. The weather will generally be dry in the Marmara, Aegean, and Inner Anatolia regions.
Winds are generally expected to blow from the north at light to moderate speeds, with strong winds predicted in some regions. According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, wind speeds in the southeastern parts of Eastern Anatolia are forecast to reach 40-60 kilometers per hour from the south. In the mornings, mist and localized dense fog are expected in eastern Marmara, inner Aegean, inner Mediterranean, inner Anatolia, and inner Black Sea regions. Disruptions to transportation may occur due to reduced visibility.
In the hazelnut and tea production areas located in the Eastern Black Sea belt, excessive rainfall has the potential to trigger landslides and surface erosion. Keeping agricultural drainage channels clear is of great importance in sloped terrains receiving heavy rainfall. Livestock farms and rural settlements are advised to stay away from floodplains. The expected fog and increased humidity in the inland regions require periodic monitoring for open-field crop production.
