In addition to areas with high agricultural production potential, mining licenses are also creating significant pressure on the rural ecosystem and food security. The country's development vision needs to be re-evaluated with a focus on water resources, land integrity, and food supply security. The unplanned opening of agricultural lands, valued for their pristine nature, to construction directly risks future agricultural production and ecological balance.
Fertile Plains and Infrastructure Issues
Despite the existence of less fertile, rocky, and sloped lands in Turkey, the persistent shift of housing construction to prime agricultural plains is a significant planning problem. Intensive urbanization in regions where existing water, sewage, and electricity infrastructure is inadequate negatively affects rural life and irrigation resources. Scientific criteria that consider seismic activity, landslides, and ecological sensitivities should be the basis for determining settlement areas, rather than profit and convenience. Protecting agricultural lands is a strategic imperative as the foundation for sustainable food production and rural development.
