Meteorology Issues Heavy Rainfall and Storm Warnings for 16 Provinces
· GıdaTarım

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued yellow and orange code meteorological warnings for 16 provinces where temperatures are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Producers are urged to take precautions against the risk of severe storms, hail, and floods threatening agricultural production areas.
Temperatures Plummeting Nationwide
According to the latest assessments by the General Directorate of Meteorology, temperatures across Turkey are significantly decreasing. Expert analysis indicates that temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius nationwide. This temperature drop is accompanied by a wave of partly cloudy to very cloudy weather moving from west to east across the country. Sudden temperature changes in many plains where agricultural activities are ongoing directly impact plant development and crops in open fields.
Severe Rainfall Alert for Black Sea Coasts
The official weather forecast report states that heavy rainfall will be effective across the Black Sea Region. Continuous rainfall is expected along the Central and Eastern Black Sea coasts, as well as the coasts of Sinop and Kastamonu. In the Rize and Artvin regions, rainfall is forecast to be locally very heavy and severe. The General Directorate of Meteorology has warned that in these two provinces, in particular, excessive rainfall could exceed soil saturation levels, leading to floods.

Critical Meteorological Warnings for Sixteen Provinces
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued official yellow and orange code warnings for 16 provinces where adverse weather conditions are anticipated. The announced list includes Artvin, Diyarbakır, Giresun, Kastamonu, Ordu, Rize, Samsun, Siirt, Sinop, Trabzon, Şanlıurfa, Zonguldak, Batman, Şırnak, Bartın, and Düzce. Authorities have urged producers in these provinces to follow updated weather reports. In the coded regions, excessive rainfall is considered to have a high potential to affect agricultural basins, riverbeds, and village roads.
Storm and Hail Threat to Agricultural Production
The weather forecast bulletin details extreme weather events threatening agricultural lands in addition to heavy rainfall. Farmers are cautioned about the possibility of local hail, lightning strikes, and strong winds during rainfall. It is reminded that hailstones can cause yield losses, especially for fruit orchards and open-field crops currently being harvested. The risk of tornadoes along coastal areas necessitates additional precautions for greenhouse producers.

First Snowfall of the Season in Higher Elevations
As temperatures drop, the precipitation type is changing in the higher elevations of the Eastern Black Sea's interior and the northeastern parts of Eastern Anatolia. The General Directorate of Meteorology reported that precipitation in these altitudes will occur as rain mixed with snow and as snow. While winter conditions are making themselves felt in the higher elevations around Erzurum and Kars, it is crucial for herders in the plateaus to move their animals to sheltered areas. Early snowfall may prematurely limit grazing periods for livestock.
Strong Winds and Storms on Coastal Strips
Strong winds from the north are expected to blow at speeds of 40 to 70 kilometers per hour in the Marmara, Aegean coastal, and Eastern Black Sea coastal regions, creating short-lived storms. According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, winds in Marmara and the Aegean coast are predicted to reach speeds of 40 to 70 kilometers per hour, causing brief storm conditions. In the Eastern Black Sea coastal areas, northerly winds are recorded to blow at speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. Securing agricultural coverings, plastic tunnels, and nurseries is necessary to prevent damage from severe storms.
Precautions Against Flood and Landslide Risks
Precautions are being intensified in the eastern parts of Southeastern Anatolia, as well as in the Hatay, Osmaniye, Bingöl, Muş, Ağrı, Bitlis, and Hakkari regions, which have received severe rainfall warnings. Authorities have alerted public institutions and citizens to the risks of flash floods, inundation, landslides, and transportation disruptions. Producers are asked to inspect their fields to ensure drainage channels are clear and to protect cultivated lands from groundwater inundation. Vigilance against soil erosion is recommended for sloping tea and hazelnut plantations.
