Russia Lifts Fertilizer Export Restrictions for Turkey

A memorandum signed in Moscow between Turkey and Russia grants a special exemption in export quotas, ensuring Russia meets the Turkish agricultural sector's fertilizer needs for the spring season.

Memorandum on Fertilizer Shipments Signed in Moscow

A significant memorandum of understanding regarding mineral fertilizer shipments is being signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. At the signing ceremony held in Moscow, Turkey's Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ahmet Bağcı met with Russia's Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maxim Borovoy Markovich. Under the agreement, the Russian Federation will create a special exemption for Turkey on all nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers and ammonia products for which it has imposed export restrictions. This will ensure the uninterrupted supply of mineral fertilizers, particularly meeting the intensive needs of the Turkish agricultural sector during the spring months.

Gulf Crisis and Supply Security

The disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have necessitated alternative supply channels due to the halt in urea, ammonia, and sulfur imports from the Persian Gulf region. Subsequently, Russia's implementation of export quotas increased supply risks, while fertilizer diplomacy gained momentum following contacts between the leaders of the two countries. Stating that the process is being managed securely, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made the following remarks:

'We have no problems in terms of food. There is also no issue with fertilizer supply during the plant development period. In fact, we are taking the necessary measures to increase supply. We will gradually implement different measures.'
