US and China Agree on Mutual Tariff Reductions

In line with a new framework announced by the White House, the US and China have decided to implement mutual tariff reductions on $30 billion worth of trade, including agricultural and livestock products.

In accordance with the '30-for-30' framework released by the White House, the US and China have agreed to provide reciprocal reduced tariff advantages. Under the agreement, a dialogue mechanism will be established to evaluate approximately $30 billion worth of non-sensitive imported goods for both sides. It was announced that the reductions will come into effect according to the domestic legal processes of both countries, and trade flows will be regularly monitored.

According to the agreed framework, products that China will import from the US cover a wide range of agricultural, food, and medical devices. Live cattle, pigs, horses, sheep, and poultry, along with fresh and frozen meat products derived from them, are listed. Offal, dairy products, and various seafood items are also among the key agricultural items that will benefit from tariff reductions in the Chinese market.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that the achieved consensus will bring significant relief to exports. Greer reported that much more favorable market access has been secured for approximately 30% of US exports to China. The US side, in turn, aims to maintain market supply and consumer balance by importing mostly small home appliances and consumer goods from China.

Touching upon the future of bilateral trade relations, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer emphasized the commitment to operate the process in favor of producers with the following words:
