Mut Organized Industrial Zone Accelerates Infrastructure Investments

The Organized Industrial Zone in Mut district of Mersin, aiming to grow agriculture-based industry, targets 5,000 jobs with accelerated infrastructure work and new investments.

Mut OSB Strengthens Its Infrastructure

The Mut Organized Industrial Zone, one of Mersin's significant agricultural centers, has accelerated its infrastructure investments. Mut OIZ Deputy Chairman Şahin Sezer stated that the zone, registered in 2017, operates on a 165-hectare area. The electricity grid and TEİAŞ distribution station have been completed to meet the energy needs of industrialists in the zone. While water tank and site infrastructure investments are continuously progressing with a ministry loan, the aim is to establish a modern treatment facility and supply affordable water to producers.

Added Value in Olives and Apricots

In the industrial area aiming to transform the district's agricultural strength into added value, olive and apricot processing facilities stand out. Mut OIZ Deputy Chairman Şahin Sezer emphasized that processing the harvest locally instead of selling it raw would significantly contribute to the economy. Sezer conveyed that facilities for olive packaging, as well as drying and freezing apricots and fresh fruits, will be established. These steps aim to preserve the added value of local produce and direct producers towards exports.

Investor Interest in Industrial Plots

Investor interest in the 97 planned industrial plots in the zone has accelerated with infrastructure works. According to data shared by Mut OIZ Deputy Chairman Şahin Sezer, plots have been allocated to 27 different firms to date. While 2 of the allocated investors have obtained their business opening licenses, 3 firms are continuing their factory construction work. With the completion of infrastructure investments, other investors are expected to start facility construction and bring their factories into operation in a short period.

Employment Target of Five Thousand People

With the completion of industrial investments, a significant increase in employment opportunities in Mut is targeted. Şahin Sezer stated that 50 people are currently employed in the organized industrial zone under existing conditions. Sezer noted that this number will rapidly increase with the commissioning of the facilities under construction, announcing that 5,000 people will be employed once all investments are completed. The aim is to provide local employment for the rural population through agriculture-based industry.

Expansion Plans and New Goals

Evaluating the growth targets of the organized industrial zone, Mut OIZ Deputy Chairman Şahin Sezer shared the ongoing plans with the following words:

We are continuing our planning for the expansion area. When our current occupancy rate reaches 51%, we will officially commence expropriation efforts for the expansion area. We aim to grow our region by responding quickly to increasing investment demands. We want to create a strong production center equipped with uninterrupted electricity, cost-effective water, and modern treatment infrastructure, focused on high added value and exports. As Mut OIZ, we aim to contribute to the economy of Mut, Mersin, and Turkey by facilitating the processing of agricultural products, increasing export revenues, and creating new employment opportunities. We believe that with the completion of our infrastructure investments, we will leave behind a significant phase in the development of our region.
