Samsun Strengthens Turkey's Second Position in Rice Production

In the completed paddy harvest season in Samsun, production in the Alaçam district increased by 23%, reaching a total yield of 183,424 tons across the province.

The harvest season in Samsun, one of Turkey's significant rice production basins, concluded with the 2nd Paddy Harvest Field Day event held in the Kargalı area of Gökçeboğaz neighborhood in the Alaçam district. The program, which saw combine harvesters enter the fields, was attended by local administrators, officials from agricultural directorates, and numerous regional farmers. The event, where the season-long efforts of producers were shared, highlighted the province's agricultural production potential along with wishes for a bountiful harvest.

According to official data released by the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, paddy production in the Alaçam district increased by approximately 23% compared to the previous year. Alaçam, which has the second-largest paddy planting area in Samsun after Bafra among the districts, made a critical contribution to the overall production increase in the province with this rise. Producers in the region stated their satisfaction with the yield increase thanks to the modern cultivation techniques applied.

In line with the data from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 183,424 tons of paddy were obtained from 231,044 decares across Samsun province in 2025, with an average yield of 780 kilograms per decare. In the province, which meets approximately 18% of Turkey's rice demand and ranks second after Edirne, this raw material strength is combined with industrial infrastructure. As of 2026, 24 active paddy processing plants are operating throughout the province.
