Black Sea Fishermen Landed One Thousand Tons in the First Month of the Season

Fishermen who set sail after the fishing ban lifted on September 1 in Zonguldak made a strong start to the season, catching approximately 1,000 tons of fish in the first month.

Fishermen who set sail in the Black Sea with the end of the general fishing ban on September 1 in Zonguldak have closed the first month of the season with high yields. According to official data from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, fishermen docking at the ports of Zonguldak, Karadeniz Ereğli, Kilimli, Kozlu, and Alaplı with small and large-scale fishing boats caught and delivered approximately 1,000 tons of fish to shore in the past month. The caught aquatic products both increased the supply on the market stalls and supported the producers' income.

Kilimli Fisheries Cooperative Port Manager Bülent Aksu, evaluating the abundance experienced since the beginning of the fishing season, made the following statement:

Black Sea Fishermen Landed One Thousand Tons in the First Month of the Season

Negative weather conditions that have intensified in the region in recent days have caused a brief pause in sea fishing. Fishermen, unable to go to sea for the last 4 days due to storms in the Black Sea, have focused on net repairs and boat overhauls while staying in the ports. Kilimli Fisheries Cooperative Port Manager Bülent Aksu, speaking about the work, drew attention to the supply chain:

With the subsiding of the storm and the normalization of sea conditions, Zonguldak fishermen are preparing to send their fishing fleet back to sea. Following the bonito catch, an intensification of whiting, bluefish, and especially anchovy fishing is expected in the region. Cooperative officials predict that the general fish population and yield along the Black Sea coastline, stretching from Tekirdağ to Rize, are high, and the amount of fresh aquatic products offered to the market will continue to increase exponentially as weather conditions improve.
