TÜRKŞEKER Announces 2026 Season Production Targets

TÜRKŞEKER aims to harvest 6.9 million tons of beets from 1.039 million decares in the new campaign period, targeting 910,000 tons of sugar production.

According to data shared by TÜRKŞEKER General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin on TRT Radyo 1, production will be carried out with approximately 30,000 farmers on 1.039 million decares in the 2026-2027 campaign period. It is planned to harvest 6.9 million tons of beets throughout the season and obtain 910,000 tons of crystal sugar from this raw material. Şahin stated that 63,000 tons of beets are processed daily in the facilities, producing 10,000 tons of sugar daily, and that at the end of the campaign, 317,000 tons of molasses and 2.08 million tons of wet beet pulp will also be produced.

Touching upon the institution's ownership structure, Şahin stated that the 14 sugar factories and machine factories under TÜRKŞEKER are 100% owned by the Treasury. Noting that 14 of the 32 factories operating across Turkey belong to the state, 6 to cooperatives, and 12 to the private sector, Şahin stated that 72% of the total sugar production is provided by public and semi-public institutions. General Manager Şahin announced that TÜRKŞEKER's market share in the sector alone is 36%.

Pointing out that beets are a crop rotation plant, Şahin stated that beets cannot be planted on the same land consecutively, and grains and similar products are planted in the fields after harvest. Emphasizing that removing beets from the crop rotation would disrupt the agricultural balance, TÜRKŞEKER Chairman and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin expressed the situation as follows:

It was noted that domestic seed varieties named Türkşeker 2023 and Türkşeker 2053, registered by the Sugar Institute, are being delivered to farmers, and the contract farming model is being continued.

While not stating a definitive figure for the beet purchase price, which producers are eagerly awaiting, Şahin stated that costs are taken as the basis for price determination. TÜRKŞEKER Chairman and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin, who stated that land rents, agricultural yields, prices of corn and wheat as rotation crops, and inflation rates are taken into account, expressed the pricing expectation:

TÜRKŞEKER Chairman and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin also made an assessment regarding the current price situation in the sugar market:

Şahin announced that within the scope of contract farming, seeds and fertilizers are delivered to producers as interest-free in-kind advances during the planting period, and five separate cash advances are provided during the maintenance and irrigation periods. Şahin reported that farmers can receive approximately 35% of the total beet price in advance, interest-free, before product delivery, and shared with the public that beet production in Eastern Anatolia has increased by 276% thanks to the incentive premiums applied to the Ağrı, Erciş, Kars, and Kastamonu regions.

Şahin stated that approximately 350,000 farmers across 60 cities in Turkey are connected to beet production within the scope of crop rotation, and that the sector creates an annual economic ecosystem of 1 trillion Turkish Liras. Şahin stated that the beet price paid to farmers is 66 billion Liras, the value of the produced sugar is 105 billion Liras, and emphasized that by-products are vital for livestock. TÜRKŞEKER Chairman and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin explained the inter-sectoral dependency with the following words:

Stating that they adopt a zero-waste approach in their factories, Dr. Muhiddin Şahin stated that a 4 MW rooftop solar power plant was established on the Ankara campus and a 20 MW ground-mounted solar power plant at the Erciş factory. With a total installed solar power capacity of 24 MW, it was reported that 23,000 tons of carbon emissions will be prevented annually. Şahin also reported that soilless tomato production is carried out in a 20,000 square meter greenhouse heated by factory waste heat. Regarding sugar product consumption, TÜRKŞEKER Chairman and General Manager Dr. Muhiddin Şahin issued a warning:
