28 Pepper Producers in Antalya Receive Biological Control Support

The Antalya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry provided beneficial insects and 380 sticky traps to 28 farmers cultivating peppers on 190 decares in Aksu, aiming to reduce chemical pesticide use.

In Yurtpınar Neighborhood of Antalya's Aksu district, a significant step has been taken to reduce chemical pesticide use in pepper production within the framework of the Residue Monitoring Action Plan. As part of the program coordinated by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, beneficial insect support was provided to 28 farmers engaged in protected pepper cultivation on a total of 190 decares. Following the distribution event, practical demonstrations were conducted in pepper greenhouses, conveying detailed technical methods to the producers in the field. According to official information, following technical field visits, releases of beneficial insects will be regularly continued in greenhouses, particularly against whitefly and thrips pests.

To promote the widespread adoption of biotechnical control methods, a total of 380 yellow-blue sticky roll traps were delivered to pepper producers in the region. These materials, provided by the Antalya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, aim to minimize the need for chemical spraying in greenhouses. The traps, which enable natural and biotechnical pest management, directly ensure product quality and consumer health in protected vegetable cultivation. Technical personnel and expert teams working in the field also provide technical support to producers regarding the correct placement of traps in greenhouses.

The Provincial Directorate aims to transform the entire Yurtpınar Neighborhood, where the efforts are concentrated, into a model 'biological control village.' Speaking at the event, Antalya Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Fırat Erkal, stated that producer awareness has been increasing in the field studies conducted since 2022, and he said:
