Critical Warning Issued to Producers in Giresun Regarding Hazelnut Husks

The Giresun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry announced that hazelnut husks, emerging after harvest, should not be left on roads, burned, or used as fertilizer before maturation.

The Giresun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry stated that hazelnut husks, which emerge after the threshing process post-harvest, are a significant source of organic material. The Directorate advised that husks should not be left in piles on vehicle roads, should be transported to appropriate areas after threshing, and must absolutely not be burned. It was emphasized that waste left on roads endangers the safety of life and property, while burning them poses risks of fire and environmental pollution.

According to the Directorate's data, an estimated 20 to 50 kilograms of hazelnut husks are obtained from one decare of land. The institution cautioned producers against using the husks directly as fertilizer in hazelnut orchards before their full maturation process is complete.
