Hazelnut Yield in Bartın Rises to 14,000 Tons
· Tarım TV

Bartın's 2026 hazelnut harvest concluded with an expected yield of 14,000 tons, while a call was made for wintering pest control against the brown marmorated stink bug concentrated in orchards.
Hazelnut Harvest Event in Arıönü Village
The 2026 hazelnut harvest was completed with a field day program held in Arıönü village, a district of Bartın's central province. The harvest festival was attended by Bartın Governor Nurtaç Arslan, Bartın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Murat Türkmen, provincial protocol members, farm owners, and local villagers. The protocol delegation, who entered the hazelnut orchard and participated in the harvest alongside the producers, shared the excitement and joy of a fruitful season with the producers. Following the completion of the harvest work, protocol members met with hazelnut producers at Mugada Beach and accepted local product treats.
Hazelnut Yield in Bartın Reaches 14,000 Tons
Announcing the yield figures for the province after the harvest, Bartın Governor Nurtaç Arslan emphasized that a significant upward trend in hazelnut production has been achieved compared to previous years. Drawing attention to the increase in yield in the field, Governor Nurtaç Arslan made the following statement:
'We are holding a field day to carry out the 2026 hazelnut harvest, one of our province's most important products. We can say that our product harvest this year is quite fruitful compared to previous years. While 12,000 tons of product were harvested in previous years, we expect to harvest 14,000 tons this year in Bartın. If we can fight the stink bug more effectively, and if all hazelnut producers can fight the stink bug along with us, we believe the harvest will increase even further.'
Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Threat in Hazelnut Orchards
During the hazelnut harvest conducted in the field, difficult moments were occasionally experienced due to the high presence of the brown marmorated stink bug. Bartın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Murat Türkmen and producers stated that chemical spraying could not be carried out in recent days because the pest is in the harvest and ripening stage of the hazelnut, and therefore the pest has concentrated in the orchards. Governor Nurtaç Arslan, expressing the threat posed by the pest, stated the following:
'We are carrying out an intensive stink bug control effort, especially in our province and the Black Sea region which includes our province. This stink bug unfortunately damages many plants, fruits, and vegetables, primarily hazelnuts.'
Spraying and Samurai Wasp Method Against the Pest
It was noted that both chemical spraying and biological control methods, such as the release of samurai wasps, are being carried out simultaneously to effectively control the brown marmorated stink bug population in the region. Officials, conveying the comprehensive work of the agricultural organization in the field, announced that an integrated pest management plan has been implemented to prevent the pest insect from damaging product quality and hazelnut yield. It was shared that these technical applications, carried out continuously from two fronts, play an important role in limiting yield losses.
TMO Purchases Have Begun and a Call for Collective Struggle
Governor Nurtaç Arslan called for total cooperation from hazelnut producers against the pest, saying:
'Our expectation from our producers is that they support us in fighting the stink bug. Our ministry and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture cannot fight alone. We all know this. It is of great importance that all our producers and farmers support us and fight the stink bug together. The stink bug pest will move to its wintering grounds at the end of the season. From this point on, we will start the wintering pest control again. We need to carry out this struggle together.'
Governor Arslan also added that the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) officially began hazelnut purchases throughout Bartın as of September 1.
