EU to Begin Antibiotic and Poultry Inspection in Brazil

The European Union will conduct a critical antibiotic inspection at the end of August, which could restart poultry and honey imports from Brazil.

The European Union is preparing for an inspection process that could allow the resumption of poultry and honey imports from Brazil. According to European Commission Spokesperson Eva Hrncirova, the inspection will take place at the end of August. The review will check compliance with EU standards regarding the use of antibiotics throughout the lives of the animals from which the exported products are obtained.

The inspection process will not cover beef and eggs that do not meet the necessary lifetime guarantees, nor fishery products that are not actually authorized. If the report yields positive results, the Commission will submit Brazil's re-addition to the list of authorized third countries for poultry and honey to a vote by member states.
