Peach Prices Halved in One Day in Çivril

The purchase price of peaches in Denizli's Çivril district, which started the harvest season at 30 lira per kilogram, has fallen below production cost to 15 lira, as traders reduced purchases citing export uncertainties.

Sharp Price Drop in Çivril

A sudden market contraction has occurred during the ongoing peach harvest in Çivril district of Denizli, one of Turkey's significant fruit production centers. The product, which found buyers at around 30 TL per kilogram in the early days of the season, plummeted to the 15 TL band just one day later. The decision by local traders to limit purchases, citing uncertainties in exports, has directly negatively impacted the market. This rapid loss of value, occurring mid-harvest, has left local farmers, who do not want to leave their produce on the trees, facing significant market pressure.

Production Cost Exceeds Sales Price

Producers in the region emphasized that the production cost for one kilogram of peaches has reached approximately 22 TL, forcing them to sell at a direct loss with the current floor price of 15 TL. Stating that input costs have become unsustainable, producers are urgently seeking solutions from authorities in the face of rising expenses and low purchase prices. It is indicated that losses will deepen if the bottlenecks in the export channel are not resolved, and producers are demanding the swift implementation of market-regulating mechanisms to prevent market imbalances.
