Russia Maintains Wheat Export Peak While Turkey Doubles Its Purchases

Russia continues its global leadership in wheat exports with 46.5 million tons in the 2025/26 season, while shipments to Turkey surged 2.2 times to reach 7.3 million tons.

Russia's Global Wheat Export Leadership

According to data shared by the Russian Federal Agroexport Center, Russia maintained its leading position in global wheat exports during the 2025/26 agricultural season. The country's total wheat exports reached 46.5 million tons in the season, which covers the July-June period. This surpassed the export volume of 44 million tons recorded in the previous 2024/25 season. Agroexport stated that the increase in wheat production to 91.1 million tons, an 8.5 million ton rise in 2025, and strong demand from traditional buyers were decisive factors in this export success.

Increase in Turkish and Middle Eastern Markets

Turkey, among the most important trading partners for Russian wheat, has significantly increased its purchases. In the 2025/26 season, Russia's wheat exports to Turkey rose 2.2 times compared to the previous season, reaching approximately 7.3 million tons. Similarly, shipments to Sudan doubled to 2.2 million tons. According to Agroexport data, exports to Egypt increased by 6%, and to Israel by 21%, while shipments to the Iraqi market surged from 82,000 tons in the previous season to 560,000 tons.

Global Suppliers and Competitive Balance

Other major suppliers following Russia in the global grain trade have also become clear. According to information from Agroexport, based on U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data, the European Union exported 31.5 million tons of wheat in the 2025/26 season, while Canada's wheat exports were recorded at 29.6 million tons. These figures from the global markets indicate that Russia continues its export dominance in key markets and maintains its position as one of Turkey's largest buyers.
