Canola Production Resumes in Suluova

The long-standing ban on canola cultivation in Amasya's Suluova district has been lifted, and the crop has been included in basin-based crop production planning and support schemes.

Canola, whose cultivation has been banned for a long time in Amasya's Suluova district, has been included in the basin-based crop planning carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The cultivation ban was lifted as a result of the efforts undertaken by the Suluova Chamber of Agriculture in line with the demands from producers. Suluova Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Savaş Üçok stated that with the new decision, farmers in the district will be able to produce without facing penalty risks:
"As the Chamber of Agriculture, we managed to ease this ban through the work we carried out with the Ministry of Agriculture. With the new decision, our district's farmers will be able to plan their production according to market demand without facing penalty risks."
Productive Rotation Alternative in Dry Farming
It is stated that canola will form a strong alternative to traditional cereals such as wheat, barley, oats, triticale, and rye, especially in dry farming areas. The crop, which holds a critical place in the edible oil and biodiesel industries due to its high oil content, is expected to provide significant gains in crop rotation. According to information provided by Suluova Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Savaş Üçok, yields of up to 400 kg per decare were recorded in trial plantings in Amasya. The high yield potential stands out as a decisive factor in directing producers towards canola.
Support Coverage and Expectation of Increase
Within the scope of the new planning, canola production has been officially included in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's plant production support schemes. It has been announced that producers registered in the Farmer Registration System will be able to benefit directly from these supports if they meet the specified conditions. Sharing his expectations for the upcoming planting season, Suluova Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Savaş Üçok continued:
"The lack of crop rotation in wheat, barley, oats, triticale, and rye products in dry farming lands makes the canola plant an important alternative crop for our producers. With the lifting of the ban and the start of support, a significant increase in canola production is expected in Suluova in the upcoming autumn planting season."
