186 Million Lira in Fines Issued During August Food Inspections

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry imposed 186.5 million lira in fines on businesses violating regulations during over 100,000 inspections in August, and filed criminal complaints against 49 businesses.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues its inspection efforts nationwide with the aim of ensuring consumers' access to healthy and reliable food. According to data shared with the public by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, teams conducted a total of 100,128 inspections targeting food businesses across Turkey between August 1st and 31st. As a result of comprehensive controls carried out at production, sales, and mass consumption points, businesses operating in violation of regulations were individually identified and investigated.
Million-Lira Administrative Fines
As a result of the Ministry's field investigations, a total of 186.5 million lira in administrative fines was imposed on businesses that did not meet technical and hygiene standards and engaged in practices contrary to food regulations. Minister İbrahim Yumaklı stated that the inspections are not seasonal and will continue uninterrupted throughout the year. These comprehensive sanctions aim to protect public health and shield honest businesses operating in compliance with the law from unfair competition.
Criminal Complaints Filed Against 49 Businesses
During the inspections, criminal complaints were filed with the relevant judicial authorities against 49 businesses that posed a direct threat to public health and exhibited serious non-compliance. Minister Yumaklı emphasized that there will be no tolerance for those who bring fraudulent products to citizens' tables. The Ministry, stating that the judicial process is being pursued with determination alongside administrative penalties, announced that its determined fight for a reliable food supply will continue without interruption.
