Success in the Greenhouse with Subsidized Seedlings
Yasemin Güler Orhan, 38, residing in Tekirdağ's Süleymanpaşa district, has been engaged in greenhouse farming for 3 years, benefiting from a 75% grant support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Thanks to the "Let Vegetable Farming Increase, Let Producers Smile" and "Bringing Young Farmers Back to Agriculture" projects, carried out within the scope of TAKE Projects by the Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, a large portion of seedling costs are covered by the state. The producer grows vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and zucchini, as well as various ornamental plants in her greenhouse.
Conscious Production with Agricultural Biotechnology
Yasemin Güler Orhan, a graduate of food technology, took her childhood passion for agriculture, influenced by her agricultural engineer father, a step further by enrolling in the agricultural biotechnology engineering department. The producer, who researches high-yield and disease-resistant varieties in greenhouses in the Thrace region, adopts modern good agricultural practices. To minimize chemical spraying in pest control, she applies controlled agricultural methods based on population density.
Certified Seeds and Disease Management
Orhan stated that certified seedlings, obtained with the ministry's 75% grant support, provide a significant advantage in production, and she prefers hybrid seeds developed through local breeding efforts. The use of quality and certified materials prevents devastating plant diseases like Fusarium wilt in the greenhouse. Officials from the Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, who visited the producer on-site, announced that support for young producers and rural entrepreneurs will continue to increase.
