Legume Exports See Rise in Unit Value and Added Value
· Dünya Gazetesi

Despite an 8% decrease in export volume in August, AHBİB's shipments reached $148.4 million, driven by an increase in per-kilogram unit revenue.
Added Value Success in August Exports
The Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters' Association (AHBİB) achieved $148.4 million in exports in August. According to the Association's data, while the volume of exported products decreased by 8% compared to the same period last year, the decline in value was only 2%. Despite the sharp drop in volume, the limited monetary loss indicated a significant increase in the unit revenue per kilogram. AHBİB Chairman of the Board, Veysel Memiş, emphasized that the August data proved the transformation focused on value rather than volume.
Pricing Power and Product Groups
Commenting on the sector's August performance, AHBİB Chairman of the Board, Veysel Memiş, evaluated the increase in unit revenue with the following words:
'Despite exporting a smaller volume of products, we managed to increase the revenue we obtained per kilogram. This picture shows that our product quality and marketing power are directly reflected in our export value. Our figures are concrete evidence that our sector's pricing capability and value-added production power are steadily strengthening.'
According to the Association's data, legume products were the largest export item with $42.4 million, while the 57% value increase in the vegetable oil group drew attention.
Notable Increases in Target Markets
Evaluating the country-based export results, AHBİB Chairman of the Board, Veysel Memiş, announced that Iraq was the leading market with $19.8 million in exports and a 14% share. Stating that exports to the United Arab Emirates increased from $2.4 million to $9.5 million, Veysel Memiş made the following statements about the potential for opening up to new geographies:
'We have a presence in a wide market from the Middle East to Africa, from Europe to the Far East. While we maintain our leadership in traditional markets like Iraq; the high growth rates we have achieved in different geographies such as the UAE, Libya, Yemen, China, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Somalia, and Poland clearly prove how high our potential is for opening up to new markets.'
