Ministry Changes Rules for Transport and Slaughter of Unregistered Animals

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has amended regulations to prevent unregistered animal movements domestically. Unregistered animals brought to slaughterhouses or sales points will be immediately slaughtered or quarantined with veterinarian approval.

The Regulation Amending the Regulation on the Transport of Live Animals and Animal Products within the Country, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force. According to the new regulation, unidentified animals brought to slaughterhouses or animal sales points will be slaughtered immediately if deemed suitable for slaughter by the official veterinarian. All costs incurred during this process will be covered by the animal owner, and the meat will be delivered to the owner. Animals deemed unsuitable for slaughter will be directly taken into quarantine.

Under the new legislation, the roadmap to be followed in case of catching unidentified cattle, sheep, and goat species during transport has also been clarified. Unregistered animals caught during transport will be sent to the destination farm declared by the owner for quarantine. During the quarantine period, the animals' scheduled vaccinations will be completed in full under the Ministry's supervision. Thus, it is aimed to both prevent unregistered animal mobility and minimize the risks of epidemic diseases.
