The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has announced the purchase price for in-shell hazelnuts for the 2026/2027 season, setting it between 245 and 255 Turkish Lira per kilogram, depending on quality. The purchase figures, which show a 28.21% increase compared to last year, have not satisfied producers who were expecting prices to be between 300-350 TL per kilogram.
Calculations by Farmer-Sen (a farmers' union) have determined the cost of 1 kilogram of hazelnuts to be 240 TL, while producers have stated that the cost has risen to 280 TL in some regions. Hazelnut producer Özdemir stated that the costs cannot be covered, and Farmer-Sen Chairman Erdem reacted to the market conditions:
"Monopolies determine the prices. Food sovereignty is essential!"
