The European Union's Rapid Alert System announced the detection of chlorpyrifos at approximately 5 times the legal residue limit in Chinese pumpkin seeds in Belgium.
The European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) announced the detection of chlorpyrifos, an active substance banned in Turkey, in pumpkin seeds originating from China. The notification, made by Belgium, is based on the company's internal audit controls. According to records, the distribution of the product was limited to Belgium, and the relevant batch was seized by the company.

Laboratory analysis results revealed a chlorpyrifos residue of 0.048 mg/kg in the pumpkin seeds. While the maximum permitted residue limit for the product is 0.01 mg/kg, the detected amount reached 4.8 times the legal limit. The RASFF notification categorized the case under the 'serious' risk category, but the brand and batch number of the affected lot were not shared.
