Global Cotton Prices Stabilize Around 85 Cents

Profit-taking sales are leading to a pullback in the futures cotton market, while low crop quality in the US is keeping prices supported at the 85-cent level.
Profit-taking sales in the global cotton market following recent gains are stabilizing futures prices around the 85 cents per pound level. The December 2026 cotton contract closed slightly above 84 cents, marking a retreat of approximately 8.8 cents from its year-to-date peak of 93.14 cents. Although prices have touched their lowest levels since mid-August, they continue to trade up 27% on a year-over-year basis, with the market monitoring 85 cents as support and 88 and 89.40 cents as resistance.
Despite the price pullback, developments on the supply side are limiting the decline. The fact that only 39% of cotton acreage in the US is rated as good or excellent keeps expectations for downward revisions in crop yield forecasts alive, thereby supporting prices.
