Import Decision Erases Onion Profit Margins

Following the import decision, dry onion prices have fallen to cost levels, SO-DER announced, stating that producer profit margins have completely disappeared, putting next season's production at risk.

The Onion Producers and Suppliers Association (SO-DER) announced that dry onion producer selling prices have fallen to the 15-20 TL per kilogram range following the import decision. The association stated that the cost per kilogram is around 15-17 TL, indicating that the current situation has completely eliminated producer profit margins.

Emphasizing that the sharp drop in prices stems from uncontrolled import policies and that this situation is deterring producers from planting, SO-DER Chairman Reşit Kaya made the following statement:

Turkey's annual onion production varies between 2.5 million and 3 million tons. Domestic producers are struggling to sell their products under favorable market conditions.
