TMO Commences Hazelnut Purchases in Ordu and Giresun

The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has officially launched its 2026 crop shelled hazelnut purchases in Ordu and Giresun, aiming to maintain market stability and meet producers' storage and marketing needs.

Hazelnut Purchase Process in Ordu

The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has officially commenced its 2026 crop shelled hazelnut purchases, aiming to ensure stability in the hazelnut market and address producers' storage and marketing challenges. In line with the institution's planning, a total of 6 purchasing sites have been established across Ordu, including the districts of Altınordu, Fatsa, and Ünye. Hazelnut producers wishing to sell their products to the institution with state guarantee began lining up in front of the institution's warehouses early in the morning.

Producers' First Day Deliveries

Producer Derya Tulgar, who delivered 570 kilograms of hazelnuts from Kurtulmuş Mahallesi to the warehouse in Altınordu district, expressed satisfaction with timely payments, stating:

"We are pleased with selling our hazelnuts to TMO. We are particularly satisfied because they pay us on time. This is a state institution. My advice to producers is to bring their hazelnuts to TMO. They won't lose, they will profit."

Producer İbrahim Atasever, who brought 800 kilograms of hazelnuts from Saraycık Mahallesi, also found the purchasing conditions favorable.

Purchases and Schedule in Giresun

Purchases were simultaneously launched at 4 locations in Giresun, including the provincial center, Tirebolu, and Bulancak. Giresun Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Nurittin Karan, reporting that the harvest is largely complete in areas up to 250 meters altitude along the coast, made the following assessment regarding the purchases:

"To avoid being victimized by price issues, delivering the product to TMO would be in the producers' best interest. We believe that if the purchases continue rapidly, the free market will also react to this."

In Giresun, purchases will commence on September 1 in Keşap, Espiye, and Görele, and on September 3 in Güce.
