Adıyaman Almond Producers Demand Price Guarantees

Amidst falling almond yields in Adıyaman due to excessive rainfall and rising costs, the Kahta Chamber of Agriculture has called for urgent measures against price uncertainty and import pressure.
Significant Drop in Yield and Orchard Uprooting
Almond production across Adıyaman is at a critical juncture due to economic hardships and climatic conditions. According to data shared by Fatin Rüştü Zorlu Turanlı, Head of the Kahta Chamber of Agriculture, the almond yield, which stood at 25,000 tons in 2025, is expected to fall to between 18,000 and 20,000 tons in the 2026 harvest season. Turanlı stated that a loss of 5,000 to 7,000 tons is anticipated due to excessive rainfall during the flowering period and rising costs. He also emphasized that approximately 5,000 acres of almond orchards were uprooted across the province last year. Turanlı noted the difficulty in re-establishing orchards that were cultivated over many years of investment.
Price Uncertainty and Import Warning
A call has been made to Agricultural Credit Cooperatives and relevant public institutions to prevent producers from being crushed by marketing and cost pressures. Highlighting the challenges faced by producers, Kahta Chamber of Agriculture Head Fatin Rüştü Zorlu Turanlı stated:
"The producer must know in advance what to produce and at what price to sell their product. Price uncertainty at harvest time is unacceptable."
Arguing for the sustainability of production, Turanlı advocated for the announcement of floor prices before harvest. He also stressed the necessity of concrete measures against almond imports during the harvest period to protect local farmers.
