502 Greenhouse Covers Distributed to Producers in Kastamonu

Within the scope of a project in Kastamonu, 502 greenhouse covers, procured with a budget of 5 million Turkish Lira, were delivered to farmers with a 50% subsidy.
Another support initiative has been added to the efforts aimed at developing and expanding under-cover vegetable production in Kastamonu. Within the framework of the 'Greenhouse Covers for Vegetables, Green All Year Round Project,' prepared under the 'Vegetable Production Development Project' implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, equipment was delivered to producers. Greenhouse films of various sizes were ceremonially delivered to selected farmers based on demands from District Agriculture and Forestry Directorates. This support aims to ensure the continuity of production for local producers.
The total budget for the project, financed through a partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and producers, was announced as 5 million TL. While 50% of the cost, amounting to 2 million 500 thousand TL, was covered by a direct Ministry grant, the remaining 50% was borne by the producers. Under the 50% subsidized project, a total of 502 greenhouse covers, weighing 33,600 kilograms, were delivered to farmers. This contribution, which reduces input costs, has alleviated the expenses for greenhouse renewal for producers.
The 'Effective Utilization of Agricultural Lands' (TAKE) Project is also being continuously implemented to bring unused agricultural lands back into production and increase product diversity. Across Kastamonu, 10 separate projects were implemented under TAKE in 2025, and 13 different projects were launched in 2026. These efforts aim to reduce costs for small-scale farmers, ensure the continuity of family businesses in production, and extend the vegetable harvest season over longer periods of the year.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Kastamonu Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Ahmet Kılıç, stated that according to TÜİK data, there are approximately 320 decares of greenhouse area in the city. Kılıç noted that about 1,900 producers are involved in greenhouse farming, with it being particularly concentrated in the central Kastamonu and İnebolu districts. Reminding that 1,356 covers have been distributed to producers in the last three years, Kılıç emphasized that 152 greenhouses have been brought into production through Rural Development and IFAD projects.
