Tarım Kredi Markets Report Loss Despite Record Revenue

Tarım Kredi Markets reported a loss of 1 billion 91 million Turkish Lira in the first half of 2026, despite achieving a revenue of 43.5 billion Turkish Lira. The company also closed 30 branches and laid off 1,808 employees.
Financial Statement at Tarım Kredi Markets
CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer shared significant data regarding the financial situation and employment policies of Tarım Kredi Markets with the public. Gürer announced that the institution reported a net period loss of 1 billion 91 million 551 thousand Turkish Lira in the first half of 2026, that 30 branches ceased operations, and that a total of 1,808 employees were laid off within the last year. While noting that parliamentary questions submitted to the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, remain unanswered, it was emphasized that the structure, which set out with the claim of connecting producers and consumers, has entered a serious financial bottleneck.
Loss Despite High Revenue
Drawing attention to the fact that the company incurred a significant loss despite achieving a high sales revenue of 43.5 billion Turkish Lira in the first six months of 2026, CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer made the following assessments on the matter:
"Tarım Kredi Markets was presented to the public by the government as a model that would bridge producers and consumers and offer products at affordable prices. Initially, structural changes were made to the markets. Millions were spent on what was deemed necessary for signage and structural changes, creating significant expenditure even for signage. Why and for what reason were these excessive expenses incurred? Who made these decisions? Today, we have billions of Lira in losses, closed branches, and thousands of employees who have lost their jobs. An account must be demanded for this situation."
Call for Transparency and Management Expenses
Stating that the reasons behind the loss despite the enormous revenue generated by the market chain need to be clarified, CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer demanded scrutiny of expense items, saying:
"Billions of Lira in revenue are generated, but the company reports a loss. Then, citizens, farmers, and the public must ask this question: Why is this loss occurring? What are the purchase costs of the products, what are the profit margins applied in sales, and what are the operating expenses? How much do the signage, store setup, advertising, logistics, and other expenses of the markets amount to? How much resource was allocated to extravagance? What was the salary increase for senior executives of the loss-making institution? All of these must be explained transparently."
Unanswered Parliamentary Questions to the Ministry
CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer stated that he submitted a parliamentary question to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on April 29, 2026, to be answered by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, and posed detailed questions regarding the operation of the retail chain, saying:
"I am not asking written questions in Parliament in vain. Because there is a situation that the public needs to know. What is the number of markets? At what cost are products purchased, and at what cost are they sold? What is the profit margin applied? What is the cost of products that have passed their shelf life? Who covers their losses? I requested answers to all of these. However, we are awaiting answers to our questions."
Unplanned Growth and Closed Branches
Noting that the markets, which were rapidly expanded at one point, have now begun to be closed, CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer criticized the management strategies and emphasized that the capital of farmers must be used efficiently, stating:
"Now, branches are being closed. What is the reason for this? Was rapid growth planned incorrectly? Was the feasibility of the opened markets not conducted? With what understanding were the resources of a structure that is a common asset of public funds and farmers used?"
Layoffs and Expectation of Oversight
Highlighting the situation of 1,808 employees who lost their jobs in the last year and the need for institutional oversight, CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer concluded his remarks as follows:
"On one hand, billions of Lira in losses are reported, and on the other hand, employees are losing their jobs. The dismissal of 1,808 workers cannot be seen as an ordinary business decision. These people have families, they have livelihoods. Why are the employees paying the price for the mistakes in the company's management? Closing branches is easy, laying off workers is easy. The real question is how we reached this point. Simply closing branches and reducing employment is not a solution without revealing the real reasons for the loss. We submit written parliamentary questions, we request information from the ministry. Because these institutions are common values of the public and farmers. However, our questions remain unanswered. Tarım Kredi Markets are losing money, branches are closing, workers are losing their jobs; the ministry does not answer our questions. Yet, the public has the right to know. Why is Tarım Kredi losing money? What are the market expenses? How much profit or loss is made from which products? Which branches are closed? How many people were laid off? All of these need to be presented clearly and explicitly. In addition to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade also has a duty to examine and investigate this process."
