Sunflower Oil Exports Reach $932 Million

Turkey's sunflower oil exports rose 17.9% to $931.9 million in the first nine months of the year, with the Southeastern Anatolia Region accounting for 60.4% of the foreign sales.

Increase in Export Volume and Value

According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Turkey's sunflower oil exports recorded remarkable growth in the first nine months of the year. Export volume increased by 4.8% year-on-year to reach 558,471 tons. In terms of value, a rise of 17.9% was achieved, bringing total revenue to $931,949,000. The data clearly revealed the revenue growth of the vegetable oil sector in foreign markets and the upward trend in unit prices.

Southeastern Anatolia and Target Markets

The Southeastern Anatolia Region exhibited a performance of $563,066,000 with a 26.1% increase in sunflower oil exports, bringing its share in total exports to 60.4%. On a country basis, the highest shipment was to Djibouti, corresponding to 178,358 tons and $292,231,000. Sudan followed with 63,175 tons and $104,857,000, while Libya's exports, which were $57,123,000 in the same period last year, increased to $85,664,000.

Price Competition in Global Markets

TİM Board Member and GAİB Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters' Association Chairman Celal Kadooğlu, who predicts that global vegetable oil stocks will fall to 29.9 million tons due to a decrease in palm oil production, made the following assessment:

'Global data indicates a significant difference between the sunflower oil market and the general vegetable oil balance. When these two trends are considered together, it can be said that the increase in sunflower oil production will not create a similar supply relief in the entire vegetable oil market. This is because when evaluating the trend of sunflower oil prices, it is not enough to look only at the production and stock expectations for this product; the supply of alternatives such as palm and soybean oil also plays a decisive role in price formation. Therefore, for the expansion in world sunflower oil trade to turn into a concrete opportunity for our exporters, it will depend on the product maintaining its price position against alternative vegetable oils.'
