Modern Cattle Fattening Facility Established in Van with 21.5 Million Lira Investment

A modern cattle fattening facility, established with a 21.5 million lira investment and 50% grant support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Van's İpekyolu district, aims to increase efficiency in regional meat production.

The Rural Development Investments Support Program, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, continues to offer new investment opportunities to producers in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Zahir Yıldız, a 60-year-old who has been engaged in traditional livestock farming for 30 years in Van's İpekyolu district, submitted his modern cattle fattening project to the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Yıldız, a father of 8, whose 50% grant support application from the Ministry was approved, constructed a modern beef cattle facility in compliance with contemporary standards on a 2,400 square meter plot of land within the boundaries of the Aşağıçitli Neighborhood.

The total investment cost of the modern livestock project brought to life was announced as approximately 21.5 million Turkish Liras. Providing information about the facility's financing process and objectives, cattle farmer Zahir Yıldız stated:

In the modern facility, established with a capacity for 350 head of cattle, animal welfare and efficiency are prioritized. The facility includes stables, a large feed storage area, a manure pit, and technological machinery and equipment. Designed with a slatted floor system, the facility operates with automated feeding, watering, and automatic manure scraping systems running continuously. In a region where winters are harsh, a climate control infrastructure that ensures appropriate temperature, humidity balance, and air circulation for the healthy development of animals is also actively utilized within the facility.

With the help of 3 employees working at the facility, the care and feeding of 350 head of cattle are carried out meticulously. Cattle farmer Zahir Yıldız, who stated that he had been engaged in livestock farming under primitive conditions for about 30 years, described the transformation achieved with the following words:

Thanks to the technological equipment, labor is saved, and the animal care processes proceed flawlessly.

The entrepreneur, who is increasing production quality at his current facility in Van, has also shared his future growth plans with the public. Yıldız aims to gradually increase his current herd of 350 head of cattle to 1,000, targeting a significant contribution to the region's red meat supply. The producer, who wishes to expand the facility area with the support of rural development programs, states that he wants to continue to be a role model in Eastern Anatolian cattle farming by increasing the meat yield per animal through modern barn management.

Despite modern production conditions, the lack of marketing and slaughterhouse facilities in Van and surrounding provinces poses economic challenges for producers. Cattle farmer Zahir Yıldız expressed the difficulties encountered, stating:

Yıldız stated that due to the inadequacy of slaughter infrastructure, they are forced to transport their animals to provinces such as Kars and Kayseri.

Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry Rural Development and Organization Branch Manager Bünyamin Hakan and his technical team visited the facility to conduct an on-site inspection of the newly established facility. Officials who inspected the facility's operations and herd health provided consultancy services to the producer regarding animal care, ration preparation, and the facility's future capacity expansion. Ministry teams noted that technical follow-up and guidance efforts in the region will continue uninterrupted to increase the efficiency of rural investments.
