TIGEM Raises 20,000 Angus Cattle on Iğdır Pastures

The General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TIGEM) is boosting red meat production with its herd of 20,000 Angus cattle raised in open pasture conditions in Iğdır, while also providing strategic land clearance along the border.

Pasture Advantages of the Angus Breed

The General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TIGEM), which continues its efforts to increase red meat production in Turkey, has achieved remarkable results with its pasture project in Iğdır. Despite prevailing prejudices in the country, the Angus breed, raised in open pasture conditions, stands out for its resilience to harsh conditions and rapid meat gain capacity. TIGEM General Manager Dr. Hasan Gezginç made the following assessment regarding the success achieved:

'Thanks to their mouths and digestive systems, they can eat everything, including shrubby plants, and produce meat very quickly. Their meat is high quality, production is fast, and they are resilient. We thought it was a perfect fit for our country, and we succeeded in Iğdır'

Herd Size and Strategic Contribution

The herd, raised entirely in open pasture conditions instead of closed facilities, reaches a population of 20,000 head periodically. TIGEM aims to disseminate meat productivity by distributing some of these raised animals to local producers. The project is also implemented along the border line with the support of the Ministry of National Defense. Thanks to the Angus's ability to consume shrubby vegetation, the dense vegetation along the border line is cleared, expanding the field of vision.
