Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccination Campaign Kicks Off in Artvin

A fall vaccination campaign against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) has commenced across 8 districts in Artvin, targeting all cattle over two months old.

The Artvin Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry has launched its fall vaccination efforts against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) as part of the 2026 Animal Disease Control Program. The campaign, which will be conducted in the provincial center and 8 districts, will continue between September 14 and November 13, 2026. Under this initiative, all cattle over the age of two months are being included in the preventive vaccination program. For calves born to unvaccinated mothers, the vaccination process is administered in the field under the supervision of veterinarians starting from 14 days of age.

The first field application of the campaign was carried out at Artvin's first FMD-Free Herd in Bakırtepe Village, Yusufeli district. Artvin Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Neşat Ulutaş, who participated in the activities, stated that combating FMD is a shared responsibility and emphasized the importance of producers adhering to the vaccination schedule. During the visit, the development status of pregnant Angus heifers, procured within the scope of the 'Rural Livestock Support Project,' was also inspected on-site, and the sustainability of animal production was monitored.
