Sweetener Use in Fruit Juices to Be Banned

A new draft regulation prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will completely prohibit the use of sweeteners in fruit juices, including concentrated, pureed, and powdered products.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is making changes to the Turkish Food Codex Regulation on Fruit Juice and Similar Products. According to the new draft regulation prepared, the use of sweeteners will not be permitted in fruit juices, including concentrated, pureed, and powdered products. Within the scope of the new regulation, sweetener use will only be allowed in fruit nectars labeled as 'no added sugar' and 'low calorie'.
With the Ministry's draft, fruit juices with at least 30% of their naturally occurring sugar content reduced through processing per liter or serving have also been included under the legislation. It was announced that industry stakeholders can submit their views and suggestions regarding the prepared draft regulation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry until September 25th.
