Meteorology Warns: Storm and Heavy Rainfall Expected in 65 Provinces

The General Directorate of Meteorology issued heavy rainfall warnings for 65 provinces nationwide, issuing a yellow code alert for 11 cities due to risks of storms and flash floods.

According to the latest weather forecast report shared by the General Directorate of Meteorology, widespread rainfall is expected across the country on Friday, October 2, 2026. Data from the institution indicates that rainfall and thunderstorms will affect a total of 65 provinces. Temperatures are predicted to remain below seasonal norms nationwide. Localized heavy rainfall is expected in specific basins. Caution is advised against the risk of flash floods in agricultural lands.

Intermittent showers and thunderstorms are anticipated in all provinces of the Marmara Region except Edirne. According to meteorological data, winds are expected to blow from the north at speeds of 50-70 km/h, causing short-term storms along the coasts of the Western Black Sea, Marmara, and Northern Aegean. Rainfall will intensify in western Kocaeli, eastern Çanakkale, and in Istanbul, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ. Temperatures are expected to be around 20 degrees Celsius in Bursa, 21 degrees in Kocaeli, and 19 degrees in Istanbul.

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a yellow code meteorological warning for 11 provinces due to risky weather conditions. The provinces designated with a yellow code are Adana, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Hatay, Istanbul, Kastamonu, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Sinop, Tekirdağ, and Osmaniye. Officials pointed to potential adverse effects such as sudden floods, inundation, and roof damage caused by storms and excessive rainfall. It was emphasized that producers should secure agricultural structures and greenhouses in open areas.

While the weather across the Mediterranean Region will be partly cloudy to very cloudy, rainfall is expected in the Eastern Mediterranean and around Antalya. Rainfall is reported to be locally heavy in Adana and Osmaniye. Showers are also predicted to be strong in the coastal and western parts of Hatay. According to meteorological data, temperatures will be 25 degrees Celsius in Adana, 24 degrees in Hatay, 27 degrees in Antalya, and 17 degrees in Isparta. Drainage measures are crucial for citrus and vegetable gardens in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Strong thunderstorms will affect the Western, Central, and Eastern Black Sea coasts. Rainfall is forecast to be locally heavy in the vicinity of Sinop and the northern parts of Kastamonu. Heavy rainfall is also expected in the eastern districts of Rize and the northern parts of Artvin after midnight. Temperatures in Sinop were recorded at 21 degrees Celsius, 20 degrees in Rize, and 21 degrees in Samsun. Vigilance is advised against landslide risks in hilly areas where hazelnuts and tea are cultivated.

Intermittent rainfall is observed across the Eastern Anatolia Region, with winds expected to blow strongly from the south at 40-60 km/h in the southeastern parts. Rainfall is anticipated to be locally heavy in the vicinity of Erzincan, Tunceli, Elazığ, and the northern parts of Malatya. Temperatures will remain around 19 degrees Celsius in Malatya, 17 degrees in Erzurum and Kars, and 18 degrees in Van. In Southeastern Anatolia, Diyarbakır will experience rainfall with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, and Şanlıurfa at 25 degrees Celsius.

To prevent strong storms and heavy rainfall from disrupting agricultural activities, field precautions must be fully implemented. In coastal areas where wind speeds will reach 70 kilometers per hour, greenhouse ventilation openings and plastic coverings should be checked. In cultivated areas within the 65 provinces expecting locally heavy rainfall, on-field drainage channels must be kept clear.
