2030 Roadmap Set for Digital Tracking in Livestock

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is initiating an RFID-based tracking era with GEKİS, aiming for the livestock sector to transition to an AI-supported national decision system by 2030.
GEKİS and RFID Era in Livestock
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has entered a new era of electronic identification for animals with GEKİS, the Secure Electronic Ear Tag and Monitoring System. Thanks to the RFID technology used within the system, animals can be read remotely and in bulk. This technology aims to monitor the entire life cycle of animals from birth to slaughter, keep health and slaughter records secure, and minimize manual data entry. Thus, traceability and record reliability in herd management are significantly increased.
2030 Digital Data Roadmap
Pointing to the importance of the process, Former HAYGEM Department Head Dr. Ender Burçak made the following assessment:
"The electronic tag is not the digital transformation itself, but its infrastructure."
According to the roadmap shared by Dr. Burçak, following the Smart Tag in 2021 and GEKİS steps in 2026, the National Digital Livestock Data and Decision Support System is targeted for 2030. In line with this goal, it is proposed to collect TÜRKVET, laboratory, veterinarian, slaughterhouse, and farm data under a single roof and manage it with AI support.
