Aksaray Offers 50% Subsidized Tent Barns for Livestock Breeders

A subsidized tent barn project in Aksaray aims to protect small ruminant populations and boost meat yield through financial support for breeders.

Portable Barn Support in Aksaray

The Portable Tent Barn Project, implemented in Aksaray in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Konya Plain Project (KOP) Regional Development Administration, enables producers to overcome seasonal challenges. Within the scope of the project, portable tent barns have been delivered to 80 producers across the city to date. These structures, notable for their four-layer special insulation and modern ventilation windows, aim to maximize animal comfort in harsh winter and summer conditions.

Objectives and Subsidy Scope

Aksaray Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Nejdet Demir, emphasized that the province has a small ruminant population of 1.2 million. Demir shared the project details, stating that a 50% subsidy is provided to producers with 100 to 300 head of livestock:

"Our Ministry, Governorship, and KOP are developing projects to ensure our producers achieve high yields. Through the project we have implemented in this context, we provide portable tent barns with a 50% subsidy to producers who have between 100 and 300 head of livestock. So far, 80 of our breeders have benefited from our project. This year, with KOP support, 25 more producers have qualified to receive tent barns. We have also submitted 20 more barn projects to our Ministry. If approved, we will offer 45 more tent barns to our producers within this year. The most significant feature of our portable tents is their resistance to climatic conditions. They protect animals from cold, rain, snow, and wind in winter, and from hot weather conditions in summer. As the comfort of our animals increases, the yield we obtain also increases proportionally."

Four-Season Climate Resilience

According to data from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, these structures play a critical role in increasing the share of small ruminants in red meat production and boosting the number of breeding animals.

High Yield Satisfaction from Producers

Tuncer Derin, a producer from Kökez village, stated that he houses nearly 200 animals in a 250-square-meter barn he established in 2021. Explaining the insulation advantage of the system, Derin made the following assessment:

"Thanks to its four-layer insulated structure, the tent barn is very cool in summer and warm in winter. Unlike other barns, everything from the ventilation windows to its structure is meticulously designed. Our animals were very comfortable."

Touching upon the versatile use of the tents, producer Tuncer Derin concluded his remarks as follows:

"This structure is not only suitable for small ruminants but also very practical for raising large breed calves. There are producers in surrounding villages who raise 3-5 month old calves in these barns, and we know they are very satisfied."
