Ministry to Provide Additional 30 Billion Lira Support to Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that an additional 30 billion lira in support will be provided to producers, alongside existing payments, as it finalizes a new action plan targeting the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the new agricultural action plan covering the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions will be announced to the public soon. Minister Yumaklı, visiting Erzincan as part of AK Party's 'Turkey's Century Meetings,' shared steps that will strengthen the production infrastructure. The Ministry stated that extensive regional workshops were held in Diyarbakır and Erzurum, and preparations are in their final stages. Products unique to the region, livestock farming areas, and investment timelines will be announced very soon.

Evaluating the development process in the region, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made the following statement:

It was noted that the agricultural potential of Eastern Anatolia will be utilized much more efficiently with the permanent establishment of a secure environment. The aim is to bring lands left fallow due to past problems back into cultivation. Minister Yumaklı stated that projects are underway to revitalize production and develop abandoned villages in every area where security conditions have improved.

Within the scope of the new agricultural strategy, keeping the rural population in their hometowns and ensuring youth employment in their own regions have been set as priority goals. According to Ministry data, a wide range of investments will be implemented in the region, from dam construction to Organized Agricultural Zones. Added value will be increased by establishing cold storage facilities and modern integrated processing plants. In addition to irrigating agricultural lands, comprehensive technical opportunities will be offered to producers in alternative areas such as livestock, beekeeping, sericulture, and fruit growing.

Support models have been completely updated to mitigate the impact of global conflicts on production costs. According to the statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, an additional 30 billion TL in support will be provided to farmers engaged in plant and animal production, in addition to existing payments. Minister Yumaklı emphasized that the new support amounts will be officially announced before the start of the production season. This early announcement will enable farmers to make their planting and cultivation plans much more predictably according to market conditions.
