Italian fashion giant Benetton has exited Argentina, transferring its agricultural and livestock lands, spanning over 900,000 hectares and operated for 35 years for wool supply.
End of a Massive Livestock Investment in Patagonia
Italian fashion brand Benetton has decided to cease its agricultural and livestock activities in Argentina, which it has maintained for 35 years. The company had acquired Compañía de Tierras Sud Argentino in 1991 to directly secure the wool supply needed for its textile manufacturing. The vast operations, grazing on Patagonian pastures, raised approximately 260,000 sheep and 22,000 cattle. While the facilities yielded 1 million kilograms of wool annually, activities such as wheat, corn, soybean, and sunflower cultivation, as well as forestry, were also carried out concurrently.

Lands Spanning Four Provinces Transferred
With the decision to sell, Benetton's agricultural lands, exceeding 900,000 hectares across Argentina, have passed to new owners. This significant property portfolio consists of extensive pastures spread across four different provinces of the country. According to the disclosed distribution, 60% of the lands are within the borders of Santa Cruz, 33% in Chubut, 5% in Río Negro, and 2% in Buenos Aires. This transfer marks the official end of the global textile giant's extensive agricultural production era in South America.
