New Strategy Against Brown Marmorated Stink Bug with Samurai Wasp

The Giresun Hazelnut Research Institute has launched a two-year scientific study to determine the most effective release method for the samurai wasp in the biological control of the brown marmorated stink bug pest.
The Giresun Hazelnut Research Institute, operating under the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has initiated a new scientific study to combat the brown marmorated stink bug, which causes significant damage to agricultural production. Within the scope of the project, the effectiveness of releasing samurai wasps, used in biological control, either as adult individuals or as parasitized eggs is being investigated. Experts are testing the emergence density of the wasps from stink bug eggs in orchards, aiming to implement the method that yields the highest efficiency in future release strategies based on the findings.
Giresun Hazelnut Research Institute Director Yusuf Bilgen stated that according to TAGEM data, 1.65 million samurai wasps produced this year have been released into the wild in 40 provinces. Emphasizing their goal to increase field effectiveness, Hazelnut Research Institute Director Yusuf Bilgen made the following statement:
Bilgen added that production efforts are ongoing, and stink bugs collected from the field are being egg-laid in the laboratory.
Ten personnel from the institute are involved in the comprehensive project, which is being carried out in various hazelnut orchards and groves. Sharing details of the study, planned to last approximately two years, Hazelnut Research Institute Director Yusuf Bilgen provided the following assessment:
