Water-Independent Göncek Melon Receives Organic Farming Certification
· GıdaTarım

The traditional Göncek melon, grown without chemical pesticides or irrigation in Kütahya's Emet district, has obtained Organic Farming Stage 1 certification following inspections.
Göncek melon, cultivated using traditional methods without irrigation and agricultural chemicals in Göncek village of Kütahya's Emet district, is offered for sale at 40 Turkish Lira per kilogram. Following examinations of samples taken from the fields by Provincial and District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate teams, producers were presented with the 'Organic Farming Stage 1' certificate.
The winter variety melon, which stands out for its resistance to drought and harsh winter conditions, prefers animal manure over chemical inputs for its cultivation. While it is stated that growing the product without water contributes to its taste and aroma, geographical indication efforts for the melon's registration are also ongoing.
