The Importance of Farm Gate Price
The foundation of agricultural economics relies on the transformation of surplus products obtained from a producer's land and livestock into cash or in-kind income. The real value of agricultural output at the farm gate constitutes the producer's actual capital and current earnings based on its instantaneous change in value. Therefore, the primary focus of agricultural organizations, bureaucracy, and research institutions should be to accurately analyze and assess this net value generated directly at the farm gate.
Gross Production Value Methodology
The Gross Production Value, as defined in the FAOSTAT methodology, is obtained by multiplying the quantities of all primary plant and animal products produced within a country's borders by their initial farm gate selling prices. This economic magnitude clearly reveals the real value of raw production at the first point of market entry. To avoid misconceptions in agricultural yield discussions, it is of great importance to correctly define concepts and evaluate physical production with the initial prices received by the farmer.

The most fundamental responsibility of agricultural managers and decision-makers in the public sector is to accurately determine the gross farm gate income of the enterprises within their jurisdiction. Indicators provided by international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations or the World Bank are ultimately based on the local statistics produced by the countries themselves. For this reason, it is indispensable for sustainable agricultural policies that Turkey measures its own agricultural production value independently and transparently using national resources.
