## 50 Percent Support for Greenhouse Farmers in Erzincan The greenhouse covering project, carried out with the financing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to develop protected area agricultural production and reduce input costs for local producers in Erzincan, has been completed. Plastic greenhouse coverings were delivered to beneficiary producers at a ceremony held in the garden of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry's Additional Service Building. Erzincan Deputy Governor Hüseyin Aydın and Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Alper Koçaker attended the program. Within the scope of the project, approximately 15 tons of greenhouse covering were procured for 28 farmers, with 50% of the cost covered by the Ministry's grant support. ## Vegetable Production Reached 119 Thousand Tons Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Erzincan Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Alper Koçaker shared current data on the region's agricultural production performance for 2023. Stating that the volume of vegetable production in the city has shown a steady upward trend, Alper Koçaker emphasized that the total vegetable production, which was 110,000 tons last year, reached 119,000 tons this year. Koçaker noted that the harvest season is actively continuing in the field and that the yield and quality of sugar beet, a strategic crop, are particularly satisfactory. ## 716 Million Lira Support for Producers Drawing attention to the financial resources provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to sustain rural production, Provincial Director Alper Koçaker detailed the payments made to farmers in Erzincan during 2023. According to Ministry data, approximately 716 million Turkish Lira in agricultural support payments were transferred to farmer accounts during this period. Koçaker stated that 410 million Turkish Lira of this amount was allocated to farmers engaged in direct crop production, while the remaining 300 million Turkish Lira was provided as a lifeline to livestock operations and breeders. ## 2.4 Million Lira Resource for Greenhouse Project Stating that their aim is to modernize all stages of production, Alper Koçaker pointed out that plastic coverings are one of the highest cost components for greenhouse operations. Koçaker announced that the total budget for the implemented project was 2.4 million Turkish Lira and reported that over 13.5 tons of covering material were distributed to producers with a 50% co-financing formula. Provincial Director Koçaker thanked the officials who contributed to the project, stating that this move will prevent product loss by renewing greenhouses that have reached the end of their service life and increase productivity parameters. ## Protected Area as a Solution Against Climate Change Speaking at the ceremony, Erzincan Deputy Governor Hüseyin Aydın stated that agriculture is not only an economic activity but also a strategic element of food security. Aydın expressed that controlled protected area agriculture is becoming an increasingly critical necessity due to global climate change and extreme fluctuations in seasonal conditions. Emphasizing that greenhouses provide protection against adverse weather conditions, Aydın said that the quality coverings, with a budget of 2.4 million Turkish Lira, will increase the yield per unit area for farmers, thereby enhancing rural welfare and boosting their earnings in the new harvest season.
