A massive Livestock Organized Industrial Zone with a capacity of 55,000 heads is being established in Van, while the greenhouse OIZ in Silopi, Şırnak, with its completed infrastructure, is preparing for production and employment.
Work is rapidly progressing on the Livestock Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) based on Agriculture project, initiated to modernize the livestock infrastructure and elevate production to industrial standards in Van. The center, being built on a vast 374-hectare area between Gündoğan Neighborhood in Gevaş district and Köprüler Neighborhood in Edremit district, aims to complete its infrastructure within two years. This comprehensive project aims to transform the city not only into a traditional production hub but into the main livestock base for the entire region.
The modern OIZ will include 135 independent cattle fattening farms along with 47 industrial plots. The plan to fully integrate the production process includes a meat processing facility, a feed mill, cold storage, and leather processing units. Furthermore, to support sustainable environmental and energy management, a biogas facility will be constructed where animal waste collected from farms will be directly converted into electrical energy, contributing directly to the economy and operational costs.
Van Member of Parliament Kayhan Türkmenoğlu, who conducted technical inspections at the construction site, shared official data highlighting the city's current livestock potential. Türkmenoğlu emphasized that Van, one of Turkey's leading centers for small ruminant livestock, has over 3 million sheep and goats and approximately 144,000 cattle. Stating that the new organized zone will have a capacity for approximately 55,000 head of cattle, Türkmenoğlu expressed that this move will significantly strengthen the cattle population and red meat supply.
