Bonito Abundance on Market Stalls
Following the official end of the fishing ban on September 1st, fishermen's nets have begun to fill with bonito. The abundant supply of bonito reaching market stalls from the early days of the fishing season has quickly reflected positively on consumer prices. Fish offered for sale at the Thursday Market in Tekirdağ's Süleymanpaşa district became significantly cheaper due to the abundance observed later in the day. By the evening, the price per bonito fish dropped to as low as 75 lira, with the variety of products and the bounty from the sea attracting consumer interest.
Falling Prices Boost Demand
This rapid decline in prices has created significant activity at fishmongers' stalls. Evaluating the season and market conditions, fishmonger Tahsin Çarpan emphasized that the bounty from the seas is directly driving down prices on the stalls, stating:
"There is an abundance of bonito this year. There is an abundance of all fish. Fish is cheap this year. Bonito is 75 lira right now. Demand is very good, let citizens eat plenty of fish. Tekirdağ will be full of fish this year. The price per fish has reached 75 lira."
With bonito prices falling to the 75 lira level, consumers, particularly those with limited incomes, showed strong interest in the fish market in the evening hours.
