The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has finalized a new action plan to modernize the production infrastructure of the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions, announcing an additional 30 billion lira in support for farmers.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that a comprehensive agricultural action plan for the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions has been prepared and will be announced to the public in the coming days. Meeting with the press within the scope of the 'Turkey's Century Meetings' held in Erzincan, Minister Yumaklı stated that they aim to modernize the agricultural production infrastructure of the region. Yumaklı pointed out that Turkey has made significant progress in many sectors, from transportation to agriculture, in the last 25 years, and that idle agricultural lands will be brought back into the economy with the strengthening of the security environment.

To accurately determine regional dynamics and production potential, extensive regional workshops were held in Diyarbakır and Erzurum. In these studies, conducted under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, crop patterns suitable for the soil and climate structure of each province were discussed in detail. Minister İbrahim Yumaklı conveyed to the public that the preparations are in their final stages and that concrete projects, investment calendars, and special budgets determined for each province will be finalized and officially announced shortly.
One of the most fundamental goals of the new agricultural strategy is to retain the rural population and permanently strengthen agricultural employment. Emphasizing that they want to prevent young people from leaving their ancestral lands due to job concerns, Minister Yumaklı said that production mechanisms that will provide local employment will be implemented. Within the scope of the plan, it was announced that priority will be given to opening agricultural lands to irrigation, developing animal husbandry with modern methods, beekeeping, sericulture, and value-added fruit growing activities.

Physical infrastructure investments will be prioritized to increase the added value of agricultural production in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia. The aim is to build new irrigation ponds across the region, establish Organized Agricultural Zones, open cold storage facilities to prevent product losses, and put modern integrated processing facilities into operation. Minister Yumaklı emphasized that these investments will strengthen the supply chain from field to table and significantly increase the marketing power of local producers.
To alleviate the pressure of global and regional developments on input costs, the amounts for plant and animal production support have been updated. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that a total of 30 billion lira in additional support will be provided to producers on top of their existing entitlements. Yumaklı noted that these additional payments will be officially announced before the start of the new planting and production season, and that the aim is for farmers to make their production plans much more securely by foreseeing their costs and revenues in advance.
