Antalya Agriculture Sets Climate Roadmap Ahead of COP31

The Antalya Agriculture Council is preparing a strategic roadmap focused on smart agriculture, water management, and financing to adapt to the climate crisis ahead of the COP31 summit to be held in the city.

New Model Against Climate Change

The Antalya Agriculture Council (ATAK) is preparing a comprehensive roadmap to help the agricultural sector adapt to the climate crisis ahead of COP31 to be held in the city. Sector representatives, who gathered at the COP31 Agriculture Sector Meeting, evaluated the changing environmental conditions and the steps that need to be taken. Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin emphasized that water, soil, temperature, and climate conditions have significantly changed across the city in the last 30 years. Governor Şahin stated that existing greenhouses need to be technically re-evaluated and that the new production structure must be built upon smart agriculture and sustainability principles.

Producers Prioritize Water and Technology

The survey results conducted by ATAK revealed the climate-related concerns of agricultural stakeholders with concrete data. 53% of the respondents reported feeling the effects of the climate crisis primarily through changes in water resources, while 30% felt it through extreme temperatures and weather events. While all participants foresee an escalation of climate-related problems in the next 10 years, 70% expect a decrease in yield, and 89% expect a change in the region's crop patterns. Furthermore, 36% of those who saw water as the most critical issue at the summit, and 87% considered smart irrigation as a priority investment.

Preparation for a Joint Accord in Three Areas

ATAK Chairman Ali Çandır stated that concrete steps will be taken to shape the future of the sector and announced that three main working groups will become active in line with the meeting's outcomes. These commissions will focus directly on climate change and water management, smart agriculture with artificial intelligence integration, and climate finance. At the end of this process, which includes the vision of an international agricultural climate network requested by 55% of the participants, the 'COP31 ATAK Accord' will be presented to the public. This document is intended to be not just a declaration, but a strategically actionable plan for implementation in the field.
