Antalya Leads in Pesticide Consumption in Turkey

According to Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry data, Turkey consumed 17.5 million kilograms/liters of plant protection products nationwide in 2025, with Mediterranean and Aegean agricultural basins showing high chemical usage.
Scale of Agricultural Pest Control Nationwide
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 17,551,001 kilograms/liters of plant protection product active ingredients were consumed nationwide in Turkey in 2025. Former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk, made the following assessment on the subject:
"The provinces with the highest pesticide use in Turkey were Antalya, Manisa, and Adana. The most used chemicals are fungicides (38.4 percent), herbicides (27.4 percent), and insecticides (23 percent). Banned substances are still in the field: Fenbutatin Oxide, Aldicarb, Chlorpyrifos, Propiconazole."

Prominent Chemical Usage in Antalya
In Antalya, the center of greenhouse production, a total of 1,492,349 kilograms/liters of active ingredients were used in 2025. According to Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry records, 577,117 kilograms/liters of insecticides were applied against insect pests and 328,173 kilograms/liters of fungicides against fungal diseases across the city. For weed control, 116,259 kilograms/liters of herbicides were used, 155,099 kilograms/liters of acaricides against red spider mites, and 6,651 kilograms/liters of rodenticides/molluscicides for rodent and snail pests. The consumption of other product groups, including plant activators and regulators, reached 309,050 kilograms/liters.
Provinces with Highest Consumption Ranked
According to Ministry data, following Antalya at the top, Manisa consumed 1,217,639 kilograms/liters, Mersin 1,513,656 kilograms/liters, Adana 1,241,924 kilograms/liters, and Malatya 818,143 kilograms/liters of chemical pest control products. Konya, Bursa, Çanakkale, İzmir, and Aydın provinces followed on the list as production centers with the highest plant protection product usage.
