While the value of local produce held by Russian farmers is decreasing, prices continue to rise in global markets due to physical supply blockages. Agricultural Markets Analyst Orhan Elma summarized the situation, which highlights a divergence in prices, with the following statement:
"Wheat is lost at the port, not in the field."
The current crisis demonstrates that issues in agricultural markets cannot be resolved solely by production volume.
Black Sea Logistics and Export Blockades
Regional conflicts and interventions targeting grain terminals have paralyzed the shipping network in the Black Sea basin. According to data provided by Orhan Elma, over 90% of Russia's grain export capacity in the Azov-Black Sea basin was temporarily disabled following attacks. Wheat that cannot be shipped from Russian and Ukrainian ports is altering global trade routes, and the redirection of international buyers to alternative markets is deepening supply congestion and price pressure in the markets.
